Morfeo presents some of their outstanding projects in the 7th WhyFloss Conference

Last Thursday, it took place the 7th WhyFloss Conference. The participation of  the Morfeo Community [1] was by Juan José Hierro, Morfeo’s chairman and principal technological expert in Telefónica I+D. He began his speech explaining the well-known Christensen’s Law, which says the importance of the value chain where all the components obtains  their own benefits. Besides, he emphasized the idea that business should use open source software as strategic and business value.

Juanjo Hierro stressed the main technologies that it is successfully developing in the Community. For instance, MyMobileWeb, an application which facilitate the development in web sites for mobile mechanism. This is an example of a successfully icon of Morfeo. But, without a doubt, the most expectancy thing was the live demonstration about another important application creating in Morfeo, EzWeb. With EzWeb, each user can design their own Internet access window and it offers facilities and mechanisms that you can´t find in other similar applications.

The conference also offered other interesting presentations about the open source software possibilities.

 The meeting began with the Emilio Arias speech. His presentation got known I+D integration in open source software architectures to offer solutions to the public administration. One of these solutions is an application which enables to evaluate and follow the administration’s activities. Besides, you can know the efficient, cleanliness, criminality levels or also the subsidy management.

Alejandro Sánchez explained the solutions that Neurowork offers  inside de health sector as a services multimedia, training courses and management of knowledge in hospitals, clinics, centers of I+D+i in health, laboratories and pharmaceutical companies.

After a short pause, WhyFloss Conference resumed with the speech of Jorge Oteo and Jorge Román, system headmaster and platform administrator of Prisacom, respectively. They explained how the use of open source applications such as Linux, Nagios or Apache improve the platform which provide digital contents to their web pages as elpais.com, as.com and all the pages that have Cadena Ser. Apache, for instance, help to load their web pages in a faster way and satisfied better all the user’s necessities.

Other proposals that we can mention were the Jesús Carlos Pancorbo ones. He presented a real-time  monitorization tool, Osmius with which its pretends to get smooth flow in companies’ communication. Osmius have a sofftware which task is to inform to the server how is the traffic and it could prevent problems before it affect the users.

Tomás Von Veschler explained that nowadays we are living in a third generation vitualization which provides high escability and capacity to offer support to the suppliers. So, as Tomás explained, it manages less mistakes on having avoided duplicity of functionalities between the operating system and the virtual environment in an easy way to assimilate, manage in a low cost.  “ It is not possible to leave the tecnology in an unique (and few ones) companies”. With this sentences Von  Veschler ended his discourse.

In total, more than 15 papers were the key of the successful conference organized by Neurowork [2] that once again  assembled  open source technology experts of the whole country.
