The Morfeo Community and its technologies will be present at the 18th World Wide Web Conference

The Morfeo Community and its technologies will be present at the 18th World Wide Web Conference, which will take place in Madrid, from April 22 to April 24.

On Thursday, April 23rd, Juan J. Hierro will be introducing the Community to the WWW2009 attendees by presenting a paper  he co-authored with Javier Soriano, Andrés Leonardo Martínez, David Lizcano, Miguel Jiménez, titled “The Morfeo Open Source Community: building technologies of the Future Web through open innovation”.  You can visit the Web page of the WWW in Iberoamerica Refereed Track, which hosts this presentation, for further details on it. The talk will represent a significant opportunity to present ongoing work as well as some of the most relevant technology innovations being lead by Morfeo partners to the Iberoamerican Community. This will in turn help fostering collaboration and bridging new partnerships.

On Friday, April 24th, Morfeo Project will contribute to a panel session chaired by the W3C Spain Office, titled “Open Innovation and Open Labs: An emergent opportunity for leading technology innovation and development for the Future Internet”, by presenting a nobel approach to Open Innovation that  has been shown to be effective.  Recent initiatives being undertaken by the Community will be explained, especially those focused on the creation of the Morfeo’s Open Labs network its expansion in Latin America, thus bringing this initiative closer to the heart of the Ibero American WWW community. Morfeo has recently opened there two new Offices: the first one to give service to the shouthern cone and the second in Brazil. The panel session will be chaired by Martín Álvarez, Manager of the W3C Spain Office, and the panelists will be Antonio Campos and Eduardo Álvarez (CTIC Foundation), Juan J. Hierro (Telefónica I+D) and Jesús M. González-Barahona (GSyC/LibreSoft, Rey Juan Carlos University). Please visit the Conference Website for further details on this panel session.

Additionally, during the conference Telefónica I+D will be presenting in its stand some of the most relevant technologies being developed in Morfeo, such as EzWeb, FAST and  MyMobileWeb.

The course “Software Libre: fundamentos e impacto en la sociedad” starts tomorrow

Tomorrow, the course “Software libre: fundamentos e impacto en la sociedad” starts at the Oviedo University. This course is the outcome of the collaboration between Morfeo Project and CTIC Fundation.

It will be at School of Computer Science of the Oviedo University since April 14th until April 24th and it is going to be presented the main impact of OSS in several areas. You can find more information right here.

QualiPSo Project accepts Morfeo Competence Centre in the QualiPSo Network

From QualiPSo news:

“The Qualipso project funded by the European Commission is establishing a world-wide network of Competence Centres, starting in early 2009 with four centres located in Berlin, Madrid, Rome, and São Paulo (Brazil).”

“Competence Centres are federated in a Network that will work as a mechanism for sharing success stories, failures, questions, recommendations, best practices, and any kind of information that could help the establishment of a solid international collaborative environment for supporting quality Free Open Source Software. …..

“The Qualipso Competence Centre in Spain is a joint effort of the GSyC/LibreSoft research group at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC), the CETTICO research group at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and Telefonica R&D. These are founding members of the MORFEO community, with which the Competence Centre will share a close link. ”

So these are very good news!
